In which case, you can just get a bigger army. The only time to consider replacing infantry with marines in the main line is if you are not constrained in all three: leadership, manpower and IC. Less research and lower officer ratio means further weaker army. Means less spies, diplomats, research and/or lower officer ratio. Higher leadership cost for less firepower. Got IC to spare? Consider tanks/planes/ships.ĥ. Higher IC cost, more than double that of infantry. Given that mainline infantry is a manpower drain, replacing them with marines will drain manpower even quicker.Ĥ. Not only do they take more manpower to build, they also take more manpower to reinforce. Adding AT brigades to them destroys their bonuses, so you might as well just use infantry instead.ģ. They are a lot weaker than infantry against tanks. They are weaker than infantry against other infantry, as evidenced by their soft attack.Ģ. However, as mainline units they are inferior to infantry because:ġ. They do have place as a special force and I would strongly recommend having a few corps of marines for all majors if possible. Marines are useful for river attacks, amphibious landings and in jungles/marshes. You can certainly build a large amount of Marines, a few Corps or an Armies worth at most as a major, but as said and explained above in this thread I wouldn't recommend building just Marines instead of Infantry entirely. IMO CAV would do just fine with HARM if you're trying to get softness for CA bonus with a slight speed advantage over the more common infantry pace. When the going gets tough, the tough call the IRON MARINES An elite force trained and equipped to deal with the galaxy´s hardest adversities Get in command of the meanest, baddest, silliest military-force in the entire universe Command a powerful army of fearless, trigger happy: soldiers, mechas and aliens across dangerous missions. It's like placing expensive PARAs with HARM to me, as a total waste of their para-dropping abilities. I've read of people placing Heavy ARM with MAR, although I don't think it's a good idea to waste MAR like that and not really be able to use them for where they are good. If I need to use them in their nominal Amphibious role I'll drop the ART out and return it after successfully invading, but I'll keep the ENG. I use them in Corps of 4-5 Marine Divisions which I build as 3x MAR + 1x ART + 1x ENGįor River attack this type of Marine Division has only a 12% terrain penalty, while for Marsh attacks it has only a 10% terrain penalty which more than makes up for MAR SA weakness in comparison to regular Infantry. As a major I use Marines for land warfare in their environmemt - River Attack, Straits Attack and Marsh attacks.
